

Dorothy (Ferro) Cabral, 67 of Acushnet, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Gilbert P. Cabral with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Vivian (Oliveira) Ferro. A longtime resident of Acushnet, Dot was a graduate of Fairhaven High School (class of 1974) and later graduated from Diman Regional School of Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN for over twenty years prior to her retirement.
Dot was a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven where she served as a member of parish council and a Marian Medal recipient. She has been a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Association since childhood. She was very involved with Relay for Life as a team captain. Dot loved to help others and was referred to as an angel on earth.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Samantha Wesoly and her husband James of Rochester, Lauren Shanbrun and her husband Brian of Acushnet, and Amy Vieira and her husband Peter of Rochester; her siblings Frances Coggeshall and her husband Barry of Florida, Sheila Gallant and her husband Dennis of Swansea, and Faith Piazza and her husband Stevan of Fairhaven; June Teasdale of Rhode Island, eight grandchildren Kayla, Joy, Ben, Nolin, Delaney, Drew, Mac, and Grant; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dot’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10:00AM in St. Mary Catholic Church, 440 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719. Visitation Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719. A private burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
