Dorothy L. Stevenson Ward

Born in New Bedford, she lived in Fairhaven most of the last 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Lucy (Gioiosa) Stevenson and the sister of the late Joyce Lund.

Dorothy graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1951 and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in New Bedford in 1954. After working as a Nurse for a number of years, she became a telephone operator and retired in 1996 from AT&T.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Stu Benton and two granddaughters Regan and Delaney Benton. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Kelly Armstrong, Roxanne and Mark Lund, great niece Kylie Lund and great nephews Joshua Lund and Garrett Armstrong. She is the former wife of the late Fred Ward.

Dorothy was very proud of her days as a nurse and loved politics, current events and helping people. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Matty Oliveira Memorial Fund, 17 Holiday Drive, Fairhaven, MA 02719 which supports youth sports.

Her visiting hours will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:00AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at FAIRLAWN 180 Washington Street Fairhaven, followed by a Prayer Service at 11:00AM in the Funeral Home.
