Elsie Dumas, April 15, 1929 to October 17, 2021, was employed as an executive assistant for the Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her three children, Debra Hanlon, Michael Dumas, and James Dumas; three grandchildren, Stacy Machado, Joshua Machado, and Laurey Brown; eight great grandchildren.
Elsie loved her birds and BINGO, especially with her son and granddaughter, but she enjoyed dragging her daughter, Debbie, with her this way she would not be the only one not winning.
She loved her drives to Foxwoods for BINGO, singing oldies, and big band music with her granddaughter, as well as her vacations to Las Vegas to visit her daughter and two youngest grandchildren.
She loved to travel and especially loved her monthly “restaurant adventure” with her daughter Debbie, choosing a new restaurant in different towns of her choice. She loved her family to a fault. She was very proud of her son, Michael, for all his achievements in karate. Especially when he received his first black belt. She was always amazed at his musical talents and how when he put his mind to something, he would succeeded above and beyond. She lived with her son, Jimmy, as best friends and partners in crime.
Her sense of humor was undeniable. She had great times with her grandchildren, spending time with Josh and Laurey singing Wizard of Oz songs using helium balloons or lying on the kitchen floor with them. Listening through the juice glasses to the people in the downstairs argue.
My favorite memories were our trips to the Portuguese Feast filling up on cacoila and favas and the Stackhouse Street Festival for sweet bread and sardines. But mostly her stories of life growing up in different eras.
There are not enough words to describe her love, kindness, and selflessness. How every week she would buy bags full of stuffed animals and drive to I’HOP with her son, Jimmy, to pass them out to all the kids.
Beyond anything, she loved baking desserts and will forever leave us wondering where she hid that recipe for cherry squares. She enjoyed life to the fullest and her “radiant” smile was infectious and will live on forever in the lives of the people she touched along her journey.
She will forever be missed. And now our angel in heaven to continue guiding us along ours.
