

She was the oldest of ten children born to Arsene and Anna Duval of Fairhaven. Gertrude graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1940, served proudly in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II and graduated from Boston University School of Fashion Design. She worked for Vogue Magazine in New York City and for the U.S. State Department and Department of Interior serving in Paris, Laos, and Washington, D.C. She was a member of the American Legion.
Gertrude leaves a sister, Claire Carter of Fairhaven and two brothers, Arsene “Gus” Duval and Dennis Duval and his wife Aline of Fairhaven. She was predeceased by infant twin brothers, and brothers Eugene and Edward Duval and sisters Madeleine Duval and Pauline Duval Keathing. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews including godchildren Lisa Gifford and Meg Aurelio of Fairhaven. She had many friends in the Washington, D. C. area. Special appreciation is extended to Judy McDonald and Edie McKenna for their loving care in her final hours.
There will be a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, New Bedford with her beloved parents and sister Madeleine.
Donations in Gertrude’s memory may be made to the Fort Taber/Fort Rodman Military Museum, 1000 C Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02744 or to any charity of choice. Arrangements under the direction of Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA.
