

Jordao DeSousa, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Born on July 19, 1943, in Madeira, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Olivia (Martins) DeSousa. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria Conceicao (deAbreu Dos Reis) DeSousa in 2024
A proud and dedicated veteran of the Portuguese Air Force, Jordao came to the United States in 1968. He later worked as a machine operator at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Revere Sink, and Star Plating, where his steady work ethic and reliability were well known.
Jordao is survived by his two daughters, Marilyne DeSousa and Rosemary Borges and her husband Richard Borges. He is also survived by his brother, Alvaro DeSousa. He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Gonsalves.
Jordao was a devoted grandfather to Olivia Irene Leger, Stella Rose Borges, and Nora Rose Borges, and he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and godchildren local and abroad.
Jordao was a knowledgeable connoisseur of wine, finding great enjoyment in making wine and drinking wine. He took pride in gardening, spending time outdoors, and tending to his well-manicured lawn. A capable handyman, he was always tinkering around the house and generously helping others with home projects. A man of strong faith, he prayed the rosary before bedtime. He loved animals, raised chickens and goats at one point and cherished his parakeet, Tony. He enjoyed listening to mariachi music and telling jokes. A very social and talkative man, he loved sharing stories from the past. Jordao was also a longstanding member of the Madeira Feast Committee, serving since 1968, a commitment that reflected his deep connection to his community and heritage.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 5-8 pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 9am from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
