

Norman B. Maynard age 86 of Westport died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of Janice (Braley) Maynard to whom he was married for 60 years. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this month.
He was born in Peabody, MA, the son of the late Harry Emerson Maynard and the late Sylvia Angelia (Clark) Maynard. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School class of 1942 and Worcester Poly Tech class of 1950 where he was a member of the Theta Chai Epselon Fraternity. A United States Navy Veteran of World War II, he was a naval aviator having achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant; he later served for several years in the Naval Reserve. Aviation was his life long passion.
Mr. Maynard moved to Fairhaven in 1950 and was Vice President of Hathaway Machinery Co in Fairhaven where he designed hydraulic winches for fishing boats as well as winches for a variety of scientific and commercial applications for many organizations including Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
Prior to his retirement he was President of Hathaway-Braley Wharf Co. in Fairhaven.
He enjoyed weekend boating with his family on Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands prior to his moving to Westport in 1989 where he continued to enjoy boating on the Westport River.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters Elizabeth “Liz” Isherwood-Moore and her husband John of Dartmouth, Catherine Tveit and her husband Arstein of Fairhaven and Abbie Underwood and her husband Dan of Ft. Pierce, FL; four grandchildren Allison Isherwood Claudio of Mattapoisett, Abbie Chambers of Westport, Ashley and Catherine Underwood both of Ft. Pierce, FL; two great grandchildren Nicholas and Ella Claudio of Mattapoisett and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Harry Clark Maynard.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on July 9, 2010 at 9am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Burial will be in River-Side Cemetery.
