

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late John and Mary (Izdebski) Palys, he spent his youth in New Bedford, lived in Newmarket, New Hampshire and had resided in Fairhaven since 1975.
Mr. Palys served in the military during World War II, doing his pilot training at Amarillo, Texas and Rapid City Army Air Base (now Ellsworth AFB) in South Dakota.
He obtained his mechanical engineering degree from New Bedford Institute for Technology (now U-Mass Dartmouth) and was employed with Goodyear for some years. He was an engineer with the US Nuclear Submarine Program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement.
Stanley enjoyed being out on the water, boating and tending to his lobster pots. He was an avid reader while keeping up with current events. He loved animals and especially enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.
Survivors include a daughter, Caryl Schuetz and her husband Maury of Indianapolis, IN; a son, Stanley Palys of New Bedford; two grandsons, Dr. Jay Schuetz and his wife Stephanie of Decatur, IL and Tevlin Schuetz and Alexandria Kay of Indianapolis, IN; three great-granddaughters, Reid, Madeline and Audrey Schuetz; a sister, Helena Bobrowiecki of New Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Helen Palys of New Bedford and Stasia Craig and her husband James of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Andrew S. Palys and brother of the late Joseph Palys, Walter “Pepper” Palys and John Palys and his late wife Ezaura (Dee) Palys.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 11:00am-12:00pm with a Service at 12:00pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
