

Stephen J. Furtado, age 73, of Fairhaven, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was the husband of Judith P. Furtado to whom he had been married for the past 48 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late John R. and Ida (Francis) Furtado, he had been a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1959, he received his Associate’s Degree from Cape Cod Community College, his Bachelor of Science Degree from UMASS Amherst, and his Master’s Degree from the University of Vermont in Speech Pathology, and was a Veteran of the United States Navy.
He worked as a Speech Pathologist and Audiologist for St. Luke’s Hospital, the New Bedford School System, and for local Nursing Homes for many years before retiring in 1995. Mr. Furtado enjoyed the sun and going to the beach. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his dogs at his beloved Big Rock Beach Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Stephanie Furtado of Fairhaven, two sons: John Furtado of New Bedford and Nick Furtado of Fairhaven.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 9:00AM at the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven.
