

Carol was born August 3, 1940 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Loren F. and Virginia (Kirby) Lewis. She married James L. Schmidt, Sr. on August 14, 1960 in Cape Girardeau, MO; he preceded her in death on January 12, 2016.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Carol is survived by her children, James Schmidt, Jr. and wife Michelle of Millstadt, IL, John Schmidt and wife Patti of Belleville, IL, Julie (née Schmidt) Wortmann and husband Thomas of Omaha, NE, Jennifer (née Schmidt) Hoyt and husband David of St. Louis, MO and Jodi (née Schmidt) Huskey and husband Matthew of Freeburg, IL; grandchildren, Zach Schmidt of Millstadt, IL, Luke Schmidt of St. Louis, MO, Sarah (née Schmidt) Woods and husband Nick of Highland, IL, Emily Wortmann of Chicago, IL, Thomas Wortmann of Fort Collins, CO, Alexander Hoyt of St. Louis, MO, Bryan Hoyt of St. Louis, MO, Amanda Hoyt and fiance’, Michael Palovcsik of St. Louis MO, Natalie Huskey of Freeburg, IL and Brandon Huskey of Knob Noster, MO; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Woods and Nora Woods; and her siblings, Robert Lewis and Anne Lewis.
Carol was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Belleville, IL, where she was very involved as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. She had many close friendships with many members of the church that were like family. Carol and her late husband, Jim, raised five children and doted on their 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Carol was a homemaker that took a lot of pleasure in cooking big meals for the whole family. She resided at The Atrium in Belleville the last five years where she led weekly bible study for residents and made many friends along the way.
Memorial donations may be made to Westview Baptist Church or to The American Heart Association.
The family will be celebrating Carol’s life with a private ceremony. The family has entrusted Lake View Funeral Home of and Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL with arrangements.
