Charles E. York

Mr. York was retired from Peabody Coal. He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy on the USS Valley Forge and the USS Mindoro during the Korean War. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hot rods, and spending time with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Catherine, nee Riley, York; a brother, William York; and a sister, June Hutchins.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel, nee Qualls, York; his children, Allan (Julie) York of Smithton, Ill., Duane (Nicki) York Sr., of Collinsville, Ill., Ryan (Shannon) York of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Rhonda (Bill) Urban of Belleville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Justin York, Jordan York, Domenica York, Duane York Jr., Casey (fiancee, Katie) Baugh, Sadie Urban, Ashley Martin, and Trenton York; a great-grandchild, Kaine Rice; a great-grandchild soon to be born; a sister, Rose (Dean) Edwards of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 7, 2011, at Lake View Funeral Home Fairview Heights, Ill., with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens Fairview Heights, Ill.
