

He was born Sept. 8, 1944 in East St. Louis.
Donald was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in both the U.S. Navy and as an Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad after 44 years working as a carman. He was a member of Emeth Lodge 1030 A.F. & A.M. of Cahokia; Ainad Temple Shrine of East St. Louis; Caseyville Moose Lodge 4 and Caseyville VFW Memorial Post 1117. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who genuinely loved the outdoors. Donald will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Katherine, nee Randolph, Barfield; daughter Karla Knight; brother David Barfield and sister Shirley Bush.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth, nee Clayton, Barfield; children, Tina Cathers, of Caseyville; Kim (Ron) Gaines, Las Vegas; Tami (Tim Malick) Kimbrell of Swansea; Donald W. (Mary) Barfield Jr. of Winchester; Dawn (Lonnie) Crum of Roodhouse, and Derrin (Beverly) Barfield of Roodhouse, and Eddie (Lori) Barfield of Collinsville; brother Hugh Barfield of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friends may call 11 a.m-1 p.m. Monday at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights. Services: Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Lake View Funeral Home.Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights.
