
Devoted son, brother and uncle, Eugene J. Kordela, accompanied by angels, left this earth for heaven on October 19, 2011 at age 80. Mr Kordela passed away at Highland Health Care Center surrounded by his dedicated nursing staff and dear family. He was “Uncle Gene” to many nieces and nephews and to the many friends left behind in his long-time home of Fairview Heights. Eugene was a resident of Highland Health Care Center in Highland, Ill., for the past three years.
He loved to play bingo, talk about baseball, listen to the radio and when he was able, drive around town. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War years. He belonged to the American Legion Post 53 and was a supporter of the Disabled Veterans of America. Mr. Kordela was an honest, simple man, who never hurt anyone in his entire life. He loved dogs and enjoyed being a pet owner for many years. His kind and gentle nature was evident to everyone, as he was soft spoken, and polite. He was extremely proud of his Polish Heritage and devoted to his Catholic faith.
Mr. Kordela was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Tekla Kordela (Krypciak), his father, Aloyzjy Kordela; an infant brother, Walter Aloyzjy Kordela, and sisters, Loretta Beranek, Sophia Brombolich, and Anastasia DeNap, and brothers-in-law, John DeNap, George Beranek, John Brombolich, John Zielinski and Bert H. Post, and nephew, Eugene Brombolich.
Surviving are his three sisters, Jane M. Kordela and Anna M. Post of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Otillia Zielinski of Diamond Bar, California and numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews and great-nieces, great-great nephews and a great-great niece.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff, nurses and Doctors at Jefferson Barracks and John Cochran’s Veteran’s facilities, Highland Health Care Center, Highland, Ill., St. Joseph’s Hospital, Highland, Ill., St. Louis University Hospital,
St. Louis, Missouri and to Hospice of Southern Illinois, for all of the wonderful assistance, care and attention to their dearly-loved Uncle. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all who served and cared for “Uncle Gene.”

Visitation: Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Reverend Raymond Schultz presiding.
Interment will be held in St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
