

John proudly served his country in the United States Army, as a Master Sergeant, in the 987th AFA Bn., during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW post 1117, in Caseyville and the American Legion Post 0199, in Edwardsville. He helped to start the Caseyville Khoury League and was an avid sports fan, especially, the St. Louis Cardinals. Corky worked with Conrail, retiring from the railroad, in 1989. He also was a coin collector and enjoyed fishing. He was a past parishioner at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caseyville, Illinois and a current parishioner at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Illinois. He was a loving family man, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris M. Engel, nee Husman; parents, John J. and Helen D., nee Kicielinski, Engel; and a sister, Delores Nadler.
Surviving are his two sons, Rick (Kathy) Engel, of St. Jacob, Illinois and John (Diana) Engel, of Maryville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Chris (Karen) Bellm, Jamie Engel, John Engel, and Jessie Engel; his great grandson, Liam Engel; his sister, Patricia Beckner; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois and from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at Saint Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Illinois.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at Saint Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Illinois. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
