John was a United States Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He retired in December 1991 from the NorthFolk-Southern Railroad. He loved walking, especially in area parks, but his favorite was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emsley and Laura Pearl, nee Miller, Hill.
Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara, nee Wetzel, Hill of Cahokia, Ill.; his children, Debbie (Keven) Moore of Cahokia, Ill., John (Charissa) Hill of Mascoutah, Ill., and Michael Hill of Red Bud, Ill.; four grandchildren, Michaela Hill, Taryn Hill, Kristen Hill and Lauren Hill; and a brother, Randy Hill of Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Reiss Chapel in Fairview Heights, Ill. Interment will be held privately.
