John C Krug Jr.

John C. Krug Jr., 85, of Highland, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois and St. Genevieve, Missouri, born August 24, 1928 in Percy, Illinois, died Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Highland, Illinois.

Mr. Krug was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. He was retired from Granite City Steel after 43 years of service and the St. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Department after 10 years. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2210 in St. Genevieve, Missouri serving that organization in many capacities culminating in becoming the Missouri State VFW Commander in 1995-1996. He also was a member of American Legion Post 150 in St. Genevieve, Missouri. He was a former Volunteer Fire Fighter in Pontoon Beach, Illinois where he served as an EMT and Chief of the Rescue Squad. John was a commander of the St. Genevieve Police Reserves and was a Law Enforcement Explorer Post Sponsor. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with his family, and his beloved dog Bandi.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Krug, nee Barnes, parents; John C. and Mary Ellen, nee Keeton, Krug Sr., two brothers; Bill and Jerry Krug, and three sisters, Ruby Worthen, Velma Revelle, and Roxie Kimbro.

Surviving are his children; John Krug of Staunton, Illinois, Curtis (Rhonda) Krug of Highland, Illinois, and Jodi Krug of St. Genevieve, Missouri, grandchildren; Crista (Bud) Krug-Lanham, Melony (Kevin) Troekler, Justin Krug, Justin Womack, Dylan LaBrayere, Jake LaBrayere, Dylan Niles, and Justin Niles, great grandchildren; Kaiden, Colby, Curt, Shawn, and Emma, three brothers; Henry “Karl” (Jeanette) Krug, Robert Krug, and Jack (Carrie) Krug, a sister, Nancy (Jim) Johnson, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, September 9, 2013 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
