Josephine Ann Jones

Josephine was born January 1, 1931 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Lafayette Jones and Elizabeth Jones (nee Propes).

Josephine’s birth was much celebrated, not only by her family but also by the community. She was the first baby born in the New Year of 1931 at her home in East St. Louis; which entitled the new parents to donations and gifts. In this era, even small gifts, such as pantyhose and diapers were a call for excitement and a full birth announcement in the newspaper.

Josephine was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Caseyville, Illinois and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an alumni of Washington University where she obtained her Master’s degree. She was a nursing instructor at Belleville Area College for many years. She also volunteered her time at Red Cross, Beacon, and the Food Pantry of Fairview Heights. She was an avid fan of baseball, enjoyed quilting, and dabbled in genealogy.

In addition to her parents, Josephine is preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Jones and Henry Jones; sisters, Mary McCoy and Dorothy Jones who passed away in infancy; niece-in-law, Leslie Jones; nephew, Donald Jr.; beloved great nephew Nicholas Kraus and her dearest friend Barb Taylor.

Josephine is survived by her nephews, Lawrence (Tammy), Daryl (Jules Johanson), and LeeRoy (Carolyn); nieces Stephanie (Tom), Amy (Brian), and Sheri (Guy); sister-in-law and friend, Johnnave Jones- Handley; many great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, Illinois 62208. Interment will immediately follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
