

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor and 2 Purple Hearts prior to receiving a medical discharge as a Sergeant First Class.
Leroy retired from the Federal Government after 34 years of service as a Logistics Management Specialist.
He was a life member of the Millstadt Sportsman’s Club. He was also a life member of the Korean War Veterans Association, IMJIN Chapter 95 and served as a Belleville Auxiliary Police Officer. He was also a devoted longtime member of Union United Methodist Church of Belleville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth C. and Pearl F. Getz; his beloved wife, Janet (nee Sharp) Getz; two sisters, Irene Green and Dorothy Illies; and one brother, Eugene Getz.
He is survived by his children, Leroy Jr. (Christy) Getz of El Paso, TX, Ken (Linda) Getz of O’Fallon, IL, Charlotte Getz of Bowling Green, MO, and Lois (Mark) Simpson of Plainfield, IL, Mark (Nancy) Kimble of Saugatuck, MI and Barbara Kimble of Belleville, IL; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union United Methodist Church, 721 E. Main St., Belleville, IL, 62221 or First Baptist Church of Fairview Heights, IL, 10401 Lincoln Trail, IL 62208, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
VISITATION: A visitation for Leroy will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 11:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
FUNERAL: A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Final interment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
