

Mercedes was born August 12, 2002.
She is survived by her parents, Charles Caruso and Deanna Perry; adoptive parents, Alan and Luaine Shaykett; siblings, Kaitlynn, Amber, Sammi (Wyatt) Hansen, Roxie (John Carbough) Castillo and Dominique Cambell ; brother, Kobe Shaykett, Johnny Caruso, Bubba, Brandon, Braiden, Brodie and Arturo Shaykett, all of Nisland, SD; nieces and nephews, "Little" Johnny Caruso, Erica and Tiyanna Castillo and Kylee Martin of Nisland, SD; uncle and aunt, Brian Perry of Potosi, MO and Annette and Robbie Caruso of Donaldsonville, LA; grandparents, Pat (Charles) Caruso of Donaldsonville, LA and Myria Warren of Belle Fourche, SD; her special friend, Justice Miller from Newell, SD and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters nieces and nephews.
Mercedes was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ted G. Perry; great-grandmother, Ruth Skidmore; brother, Michael Caruso; and sister, Breanna Hendrix.
Mercedes was known for her vibrant personality, making people laugh, and always being center of attention. She was smart, talented. and beautiful- inside and out. She was involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H Club, Whatever It Takes Coalition, and SADD “Students Against Destructive Decisions” at Newell High School. She loved her sheep and all of her animals, especially her bunnies and dog, Molly. She was a talented dancer who also enjoyed writing, drawing and loved spending her time outdoors. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cremation rites have been accorded under the direction of Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
Services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. at Newell Evangelical Church with Pastor Tom Martin officiating.
A memorial will be established in Mercedes' name as a education scholarship for children in need.
