

He graduated from Belleville Township High School East in 1978, where he was Co-Captain of the football team and a track athlete. He attended Southwestern Illinois College (formerly BAC) before transferring to Bailey Technical School, earning an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology.
During his life, Mike worked in various roles across the automotive service industry, starting at Banner Tire and then proceeded to Auto Tire. In 1990, he landed his dream job at George Weber Chevrolet in Columbia, Illinois. He was an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified technician and was recognized each year with the General Motors Mark of Excellence award, a testament to his dedication and skill in his trade.
Michael met the love of his life, Laura, on a blind date for the high school homecoming dance in October 1976. From that moment on, they were inseparable. They married in June 1983 and built a beautiful life together over more than four decades of marriage, raising one daughter and sharing countless adventures.
He loved working on cars and home projects, helping friends and family with anything they needed fixed. Mike especially enjoyed visiting family across the country and vacationing at the beach in Florida. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and problem-solving spirit, always lending a hand to those around him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Hartman Sr. and Betty R. Hartman, and his grandmother, Viola E. Prest.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Hartman; daughter, Emily (Michael) Kicielinski; brother, John (Lynn) Hartman II; sister-in-law, Lisa Galante; brother-in-law, Leonard (Lisa) Galante; sister-in-law, Linda Galante; niece, Rebecca Rouche; niece, Melissa Hartman; nephew, John W. Hartman III; nephew, Miguel Sena; niece, Amanda (Robert) Garcia; nephew, Cameron Sena; niece, Gabrielle Sena; niece, Laura (Branden) Smith; niece, Sarah (Steven) Romero; niece, Olivia Galante; and many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association or the American Lung Association.
A visitation for Michael will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208, followed by a memorial service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
