Paula Jane Chance

Paula Jane (Johnson) Chance, 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Crossett, AR, on July 10th, 1957, to Paul E. and Jane Johnson.

During her life, she worked for the Secretary of State of Illinois for many years, retiring from the State in 2019.

She absolutely loved to go shopping to find that next bargain. She loved thrift shopping and TJ Maxx where she would spend hours inspecting every aisle. She loved buying funny trinkets and hiding them in our houses for us to find after a visit. She would giggle and laugh at the excitement when we finally found them. She loved to color and complete word searches in her spare time. She also loved a good paperback book and watching movies. She was known for her love of the movie the Wizard of Oz, and anything related to the movie. She cherished spending time with all her family and friends especially her mother and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul E. Johnson, grandparents Marcel & Loise Cheshier, Connie & Clara Johnson, and her sister Brenda Johnson.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bruce; her children, Leah (Dallas) Mayo of Beloit, WI, Jason (Christina Rogers) Chance of Taylorville, IL; 4 beloved grandchildren; Carter, Lily, Clement and Cale and their mother Sarah Durbin; her mother, Jane Johnson of Collinsville, IL; and her siblings; Charlie (Julia) Johnson of Lebanon, IL, Linda (Mark) Keck of Belleville, IL, Sharon (Ron) Lakey of St. Louis, MO and Julie (Howard) Gugel of Marietta, GA. She was deeply loved by many other family and friends.

A visitation for Paula will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A funeral service will take place Immediately following the visitation. Paula will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Gardens following the service.
