Shirley Niebruegge (Wood), 90, of Swansea, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021. She was born on August 10, 1930, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Robert A. and Mabel (Greenfield) Wood, Sr., and grew up in Caseyville, IL attending Collinsville High School.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Merrills E. Niebruegge, daughter, Laura (Don) Sullivan, brother, Robert A. (Joan) Wood, Jr., sisters-in-law, Anita (Joe) Cigliana and Catherine (William) Niebruegge.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (William) Check of Great Falls, Virginia, grandsons, Jason (Danielle) Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ryan Sullivan of Denver, Colorado, and Adam Check of Ashburn, Virginia, great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jackson Sullivan and nieces and nephews Robert A. (Debbie) Wood, Debbie (Tony) Kittinger, Michael A. (Shelly) Wood and Shelly (Dave) Niermann who was lovingly at her side when she passed.
Shirley worked in the Store Audits Department at Edison Brothers Stores, in St. Louis, Missouri for over 30 years.
She enjoyed living at Grand Manor in Swansea, Illinois, following Merrills’ death. She loved reading, word games, following news and friends on the computer as well as crafts, especially her creative coloring work. She was very excited to have celebrated her 90th birthday.
A private burial will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home with a celebration of her life to be held at a later time.
