Tom was born February 11, 1943 in East St. Louis, IL to Claude and Mary Louise (Weber) Amos. While serving in the Army in Germany, he met and married Leni Kopp. Together, they shared over 50 wonderful years together. She survives him and resides in Caseyville, IL.
Also surviving is his daughter, Ilonka Amos Yoch (husband, Ryan Yoch) of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Jonathan (wife, Alisha Abbott) Yoch of Glen Carbon, IL and Elena King (husband, Sam) of O’Fallon, IL; great-grandchildren, Elsie Yoch, Annie Yoch and Solomon King; and sister, Claudia Eversmeyer of Little Elm, TX.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl Amos of Cape Girardeau, MO.
Tom was a devoted grandfather to Elena & Jon and great-grandfather to Elsie, Solomon, and Annie, affectionately going by the name of “Papa.” He loved his role of being Papa and would do anything for his family. He was well known in the neighborhood for fixing and restoring lawn mowers and was a terrific mechanic. His patience was a true gift when teaching tasks to all. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to fish and regularly helped them with their school projects. He restored several cars throughout the years, making sure they were safe for his grandkids to drive. He loved making wine from scratch, creating elaborate light displays for Christmas, and woodworking trinkets for his family and friends. Tom also drove the tractor for many of the Halloween Hayrides at the Collinsville Recreation Club. He held memberships with the Odd Fellow and Masonic Fraternities in St. Louis. Tom will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
