

Wayne was born November 5, 1937 in Johnson City, TN to Baxter D. and Mattie (Pealer) Simpson.
He married Carol Chapman on July 30, 1960 in East St. Louis, IL. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She survives and resides in Caseyville, IL.
Also surviving are their children, Kathy Becker of Highland, IL, Wayne (Mary) Simpson Jr. of Caseyville, IL, Gary (Kelly) Simpson of Highland, IL and Glynda (Mark) Leuck of Wood River, IL; grandchildren, Ryan (Ann) Becker, Brent (Katelyn) Becker, Kurt (Beth) Simpson, Jacob Simpson, Adam Leuck, Aaron Leuck, Mark Leuck Jr., Abby Creek and Aaron Creek; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Blakely, Lena, Ada and Violet; siblings, Mildred Franklin, John (Pat) Simpson, Alden (Wanda) Simpson, Bobby (Kathy) Simpson, Gary (Pam) Simpson, Roger (Ann) Simpson, all of Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law, Dixie Volluz of Breese, IL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Frank Becker; siblings, J.L. Simpson, George Simpson, Arlola Cable, Frances (Pat) Graybeal; and his in-laws, Lloyd and Elizabeth Chapman.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army. He began his working career as a switchman with Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1960-1972. He then worked maintenance for many years on large equipment for Operating Engineers Local 520.
In years past, he enjoyed deer hunting, duck hunting and fishing. Throughout his life, Wayne always cherished the time spent with his family. Although his loss leaves a painful void, his wonderful legacy will live on through the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
A visitation for Wayne will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
