William A. Mathews Sr.

Mr. Mathews, Sr., proudly served his country in the United States Navy, in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He worked 38 years as a Teamster’s truck driver. He was an extremely hard worker, but also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great and great- great grandfather, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 57 years, Julia Mathews, nee Zeepaert; his parents, William A. and Mary, nee Wolf, Mathews; a half-brother, John Vaitkunas; a sister, Margaret Annex; and a niece, Charlotte Annex.

Surviving are his son, William A. (Dana) Mathews, Jr., of Caseyville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Ray, Steven, Lisa, and Suzanne Mathews, and Victoria (Chris) Dickerson; his great grandchildren, Samuel, Zane, Megan, Christopher, and Cassandra; two great-great grandchildren, Ayla and Gemma Rose; a niece, Mary Ann (Gary) Sullivan; and his four legged friend, Duke.

Funeral: Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the funeral home with Rev. Charles West officiating. Entombment will follow in Lake View’s Memorial Mausoleum, Fairview Heights, Illinois
