EDWARD JOSEPH SYNEK age 89, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marianne Synek (nee Carney). He was also the loving father of Edward (Anna) Synek III, David (Barbara) Synek, Barbara (Brian) Klag, Annemarie Synek (Thomas Mitchell) and Carolyn (Erich) Wuerfel. “Ed” was the devoted grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of five. He is survived by sisters Teresa (James) Van Kuren and Maryann (Thomas) Wisnor.
Ed was a U.S. Army Veteran who had attained the rank of First Lieutenant during his time on active duty and in the reserves. He had a long and distinguished career of over 60 years in the insurance industry. Ed started his career as an underwriter and was still an active insurance agent at the time of his passing.
The native Clevelander attended Cathedral Latin High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University. He was a resident of Fairview Park and avid parishioner of St. Angela Merici Parish for almost 50 years.
He loved spending time with his family or friends and especially with his grandchildren. Ed was known for his love of “road trips” and a lively conversation about current events. Ed was a devoted and passionate fan of Cleveland sports teams: Guardians (Indians), Browns and Cavs. He suffered their travails and relished their triumphs but was always ready with suggestions on how the games could be improved.
Ed served the community through various organizations like the St Ignatius High School Fathers Club, Magnificat High School Father’s Club and Fairview Park Kiwanis. He continued to volunteer at Play House Square as a Red Coat until he was well into his eighties.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 11th at 11:30 am at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 20970 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, Ohio. Internment St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon Ohio. Relatives and guests are also invited to pay respects to the family Monday, April 10th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home 20820 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Angela Merici Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
