Helen Gyerman, age 90 passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Fairview, Ohio. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Gyerman, adoring mother of Michael and Les (Ilona); loving grandmother of Jamie and David and proud great grandmother of Kirsten.
Helen was born September 30, 1933 in Vishy, Slovakia to Adolph Gluck and Helen (Koncz) Gluck, who were both of Hungarian decent.
Her early years were spent in Slovakia where she and her parents witnessed and experienced the impact of World War II. In their process to immigrate to the U.S., she and her mother were separated from her father. They were reunited seven years later when they were granted entry into the U.S. and settled into the highly-concentrated Hungarian populated area of Cleveland, Ohio in 1947.
In 1952, Helen married Michael at the First Hungarian Reformed Church.
Helen lived a full life as a homemaker, worker in the pharmacy, make-up and clothing retail sector and helped run the tool and dye shop she and her husband owned for several years.
Despite having spent most of her life in the States, Helen was devoted to her Hungarian heritage. She was a member of the Hungarian Club where she served as treasurer. She enjoyed cooking and baking dishes from her native land.
In her later years, she was an active member at Fairview Community Senior Center where she always looked forward to Monday Bingo and spending time with her friends from the center.
Most of all, Helen loved her family and spending time with them. She will never be forgotten but forever remembered and missed by her family she loved so dearly.
Helen’s funeral mass will be held at the First Hungarian Reformed Church located at 14530 Alexander Rd in Walton Hills, OH on Tuesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. followed by her burial at Interment Highland Park Cemetery.
