Our deepest sympathies to you all on your loss.  Ron was a great boss, a calm and steady hand in a crisis, and a warm and amusing character in those private moments.  On behalf of my family, our thoughts go out to you during your time of loss.

I first met Ron shortly after I was hired at HTE back in about 1991.  HTE was a crazy and dynamic company then, and employees were involved at every level in the business of designing, writing, and selling software.  I still work with a group of ex-HTE people and most of us agree that HTE was one of the best and brightest moments in our careers.  I was hired as a Technical Writer and worked in that capacity for several years.  My team was under-staffed and under tight deadlines and needed another developer, and went to Ron to argue that I had the background and had acquired the necessary skills to do the job.  Ron calmly assessed the statements made by the team on my behalf, looked at me for a moment, and just like that, I had become a Software Developer.  Ron had an uncanny way of cutting through the BS and finding the best solution.  Those that worked with him experienced this on a daily basis.  There are a few people who played significant roles in my career, and Ron would certainly rank up there -- putting a guy with an Advertising degree and no documented software development experience on a team developing a multi-million dollar software project.

A lesser known intersection of our lives actually came much earlier.  My family moved to Orlando from Northern Virginia when I was in High School.  We settled into a house on Crestwood Drive in Sweetwater Oaks, literally two doors away from where the Goodrow family lived.  For an entire summer, I cut your neighbor's grass twice a week.  It wasn't until years later that Ron and I realized that my parents home shared a section of fence with his.  The world can be surprisingly small at times.

I was sorry to hear of Ron's passing.  I hope that sharing tales of Ron's humor, professionalism, intelligence, and so many other traits helps to ease your pain.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

Don and I were very much saddened to hear about Ron. We both worked with him his entire career at HTE/SunGard and have the utmost of respect for him. He was always there for us and the clients.  I don't ever remember calling him with a client on the phone where he did not say "put them through". We worked together for so long that I didn't even have to finish my sentence before he would say those words. There have been many days since he retired that someone at work would say "I miss Ron" and now those words have more meaning than ever for all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our hearts and prayers are with Donna and all of his family at this time.

So many tributes and well wishes to Ron and his family.  Clearly a person who meant much to many.  Thoughts go out to the family.  Please note the promise in the 5th chapter of John vs. 28, 29.  Comforting no doubt.
