
Elizabeth, known to friends and family as Betty, was born May 19, 1915 in Somerset, MA. Her parents were the late Walter E. and Ruth (Marble) Sherman. Betty graduated from Oliver Ames High School in North Easton, Massachusetts, class of 1932, and from Truesdale Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1936. She earned her RN and became a nurse anesthetist at Truesdale Hospital for the late Dr. Philemon Truesdale. She was a member of the Women’s Board of Trustees for Truesdale Hospital. Also, for over 50 years, Betty was an active volunteer and Trustee for the home for Aged People, where she was named honorary Trustee.
Betty reared her family in Fall River until 1967, then moved with her husband to Little Compton, RI, where they resided for more than 30 years. After a brief return to Fall River, the Palmers moved to Georgetown, TX in 2004.
In addition to her primary interest of home-maker and loving mother, Betty was an avid reader and bridge player and was well known for her expert needle work at crochet and knitting.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by : two sons - Thomas S. Palmer (and his wife Ruth) of Elverson, PA, and Edward C. Palmer, MD (and his wife Lolly) of Marble Falls, TX; one daughter - Margery E. Palmer of Plymouth, NH; one sister - Dorothy Wood of Athens, GA; one grandson and one great grandson - Matthew W. Palmer (wife Ally) and son Timothy; three step-grandchildren - Nancy Birkmeyer, PhD, of Ann Arbor, MI, Tara Rodden of Georgetown, TX, and Brent Conlin of San Antonio, TX; eight step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was the sister of the late Edward A. “Bud Sherman and Elouise G. Carlson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the interment of the cremains of Elizabeth B. and William D. Palmer at 10:00AM, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 in Oak Grove Cemetery Fall River, MA. Memorial contributions in their honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA or to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation 72 E. Concord St. Boston, MA 02472. Arrangements in the care of the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE.
