

Guilhermina Soares Rocha, age 91, of North Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 with her family by her side. She was the wife of Antonio Caetano Rocha with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
A daughter of the late Antonio Soares and Mariana (Medeiros) do Rego, she was born and raised in Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Acores. She immigrated to the United States in 1970 and lived in Dartmouth for the past 38 years. Guilhermina worked for Cliftex Corporation in New Bedford as a machine operator for 15 years before retiring in 1985, and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a talented artisan who created flowers out of goose feathers, and was known to enjoy her sweets. She also loved to travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter Graca S. Rezendes and her husband Frank S. of Dartmouth; a son Manuel A. Rocha and his wife Debora M. of Bridgeport, CT; 3 grandchildren Philip Rezendes, Alicia Kinsman and Carli Rocha-Reaes; 6 great-grandchildren Liam, Alec, Maria Alicia, Douglas, Manuel and Ava Grace; a sister Mariana da Ponte of Kingston, Canada and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel, Antonio, Mariano, Joao and Augusto Soares do Rego, Maria dos Anjos Soares do Rego, Isabel Macedo and Maria Jose Borges.
Her Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 8:30 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be sent to Community Nurse and Hospice Care, 62 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
