Jane E. Callahan, age 61, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, closing a life marked by elegance, generosity, and love. She was the wife of Richard L. Picard.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Atty. Joseph S. and Dale A. (Hutchinson) Callahan. A lifelong resident of the city, Jane was a top ten graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University (UMass Dartmouth), and earned her master’s degree in library science from Simmons College—both with distinction. She worked as a Head Law Librarian for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Trial Courts for over 30 years. She loved her role as a law librarian, finding purpose and fulfillment in helping patrons, attorneys, and court staff with her deep knowledge, professionalism, and unwavering courtesy.
Jane had an exquisite appreciation for beauty in all its forms. Her refined taste in clothing and beautiful things reflected the grace and elegance she carried throughout her life. She especially loved shopping, finding joy in discovering meaningful pieces and choosing thoughtful gifts for the people she loved. She delighted in fine dining and in the company and moments that made life truly rich. Her generosity was as remarkable as her style; she gave freely, quietly, and with an open heart, making everyone around her feel valued and loved.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Lizabeth A. McDonald, and her husband, Brian; her two brothers, Joseph S. Callahan, Jr., and his wife, Audra, and Daniel J. Callahan, all of Fall River; as well as her nephews, Brian P. McDonald Jr. and John Paul McDonald, and her nieces, Abigail A. Callahan and Catherine D. Callahan. They were among the greatest joys of her life; she proudly attended all celebrations, milestones, and achievements. She cherished her cousins, holding close the special bond, memories, and lifelong love they shared.
