

Lt. Col. Louis “Andy” McCarten, of Fall River, MA died January 10, 2011. He retired from the military in 1976 with over 30 years in the Army and Army Reserves. He was the husband of the late Dorothy “Gloria” (Kearns) McCarten to whom he had been married for over 49 years. Born in New York, he was the son of the late Charles and Madeline (Cuvillier) McCarten. He was a 1947 graduate of Yale University, New Haven, CT, attended Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA and received his M.B.A. in accounting from New York University. He was a financial executive for many years, retiring in 1984, after working for various companies, including Reeves Soundcraft, Nautec and Celanese in NY, Industrial National Bank in RI, Credit Card Services Corp of Alexandria, VA, Max Factor in Hollywood, CA and Computers International in Los Angeles. He was a member of the University Club, of Providence, RI and former member of the Rhode Island Country Club. He was an avid reader, loved to ski and was a connoisseur of fine wines. He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Gloria McCarten of Norwalk, CT; three sons Louis McCarten II of Glendale, CA, Charles R. McCarten of Warren, RI and Christopher McCarten and his wife Mary Jo of Fall River, MA; and three grandchildren, Samuel, Nicholas and Alexis.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 8am from the WARING-SULLUVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by his funeral mass at 9am in Holy name Church 709 Hanover St., Fall River.
