

She was the beloved widow of Edwin A. “Ted” Rogers.
Born in Fall River, Peggy was the daughter of the late Oliver S. Jr. and Constance (Bassett) Hawes. Raised in Fall River, she also lived in Boston for several years, Darien, CT for 30 years, Barrington, RI for 8 years, and moved to Bristol, RI in 1995 before returning to Fall River in 2013. She spent all her summers in Westport Harbor.
Peggy was a proud graduate of Case High School in Swansea, Class of 1947, and went on to graduate from the former Pine Manor Jr. College (now Pine Manor College) in Chestnut Hill in 1949. While she dedicated much of her life to family and her communities, she also worked for fifteen years as a Buyer for Taylor’s Luggage in New Canaan, CT.
Throughout her life, Peggy was an active member of several organizations, including the Acoaxet Club and Elephant Rock Beach Club in Westport, Blythewold in Bristol, and the Barrington Garden Club. She was also a former member of the Stamford-Norwalk Junior League. Her commitment to her community extended to her church involvement as well; she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bristol, where she served on their flower committee. During her years in Connecticut, she was a member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien. She volunteered at her children’s elementary school, and was an active tennis and paddle tennis player.
Peggy will be remembered for her kind and thoughtful spirit, as well as her playful and loving nature to everyone. She always remembered people’s names and offered them a bright smile, as well as several laughs. Peggy will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by her children: Elizabeth R. Armstrong and her husband, Dr. Mark of Stevensville, MD; Cynthia P. Rogers of Topanga, CA and twins, Timothy E. Rogers of Swansea and Deborah R. Truesdale of Fairhaven; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late twins, Thomas and William Hawes and Oliver S. Hawes, III.
