Maria L. Ponte

Maria L. (Soares de Medeiros) Ponte, age 95, of Fall River, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose Ponte.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, a daughter to the late Manuel and Maria (do Rosario) Soares de Medeiros, she had immigrated to Fall River in 1977.

In addition to being a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son; Manuel Ponte and his wife Fatima of Fall River, one daughter ; Eduarda Chora and her husband Manuel of Fall River, son in law; Joao Rocha of Fall River, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She was the mother of the late Gloria Rocha, grandmother of the late Helena Margarida Chora, and sister of the late Antonio, Francisco, and Manuel Soares de Medeiros.

Her funeral will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St. Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in St Anthony of Padua Church Bedford St. Fall River. Visiting hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
