

Marianno “Junior” Rezendes Jr. 82, of Assonet, died Saturday August 15, 2015, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, peacefully with his family by his side. He was the husband of Julia A. (Donahue) Rezendes for the past 56 years.
Born in Somerset, a son of the late Marianno Rezendes Sr. and Mary Ruth (Carvalho) Rezendes, he was a graduate of Dighton High School, class of 1950, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Returning from the Service, he worked for Congdon and Carpenter for 10 years, and then, along with his father, operated the Assonet Star Market. From 1979-1986 he owned and operated Junior’s Convenience Store and upon retiring he became Operations Coordinator for KR Rezendes Inc., Cranberry Division.
A Selectman for 21 years, Mr. Rezendes also served the town in many other capacities including: Board of Health, Personnel and Soil Conservation Boards, Member of SERTA, Bristol County Selectman’s Association President and Treasurer, Freetown Fireman’s Association: Past President, Southeastern Massachusetts Police Chief’s Association, American Legion, Freetown Lions Club, Assonet Athletic Association, Past President, Director and Chairman for the United Fund and Director and Treasurer of the Fall River Savings Bank. He led the effort to create Hathaway Park in Assonet as well as restoring the Annual 4th of July fireworks and parade.
Surviving in addition to his wife: two sons: John R. “Jake” Rezendes and his wife Maggie (Andrews) of Assonet, Daniel N. Rezendes and his partner Steven Chandler and a daughter in law: Kathleen Grace all of East Freetown. Four grandchildren: Kevin D. Rezendes and his wife Samantha (Berube), Michael Charbonneau and Marianna Rezendes of Assonet. Marguerite Correia and her husband Jacob of Newfield, ME. Two great-grandchildren: Griffin P. Rezendes and Magdalyne Correia. One sister: Mary Elizabeth Rezendes Brown and her husband Richard of Assonet. Two brothers: Kenneth R. Rezendes and his partner Andrea Baldwin of Assonet and Carlton F. Rezendes of Kensington, N.H. As well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of His Life will take place on Thursday August 27, 2015 beginning at 3pm and will continue until 7pm at the Venus De Milo, 75 Grand Army Highway, Swansea, MA. We invite everyone who loved and cared about Junior to attend anytime they can during the celebration.
