Michael P. Norton

Michael P. Norton, age 78, of Assonet, passed away Monday March 15, 2021 at Marian Manor. He was the husband of the late Jean Marie (Ventura) Norton, with whom he shared a long, loving relationship and marriage.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Cullen) Norton. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1960, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Education from the former SMU now UMass Dartmouth.

At the beginning of his career, he worked as a middle school history teacher for the Fall River School Department before retiring as their transportation manager in 1999.

A huge sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, college football and basketball, and playing a round of golf. A great lover of music, he liked to play the guitar and read about American History and wars. His favorite times spent were with his family and many good friends. Some of this favorite family times were vacationing in Maine and Vermont during the summer.

He is survived by one daughter, Kerry (Norton) Gray of Taunton; one son, Michael Norton and his wife Roxanne Reynolds of East Falmouth; former son-in-law, Bill Gray of Lakeville; one brother, Thomas Norton and his wife Doris of Somerset; brother-in-law, Timothy Neville of FL; four grandchildren, Bill, Brennan and Owen Gray and Jasmine Reynolds. He was the father of the late Kristine Norton, brother of the late Dorothy Neville and Elizabeth Bevilacqua and brother-in-law of the late Janice Norton and Louis Bevilacqua.

His visitation will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Due to current occupancy restrictions, please be mindful that guests may have to wait outside while others pay their respects. His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 10:00AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Contributions in his honor may be made be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
