
She was the widow of Brig. Gen. Harry G. Woodbury Jr. (USA Ret) who died in 1997. She is survived by her beloved Kenneth Robert Bunten, Jr. and a sister in-law Carolyn Woodbury of Peterborough NH. She also leaves two sons, Harry F. Woodbury of Humboldt Tenn.; George A. Woodbury of Lillington, NC; and three daughters, Martha W. Cruciani of Warwick, RI; Barbara L. Woodbury of Chicago IL; Carolyn E. Woodbury of Milldale, Conn; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Born in 1921 at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, the daughter of the late Gen. and Mrs. Joseph V. Phelps, she lived at 7 duty stations with her parents until 1940: and, subsequently, at many others with her husband who was with the Army Corps of Engineers. Retiring from the Army in 1968, they lived in Chappaqua, NY. While he was Vice-president of Environmental Affairs with Consolidated Edison in New York City. In 1974 they retired to Little Compton, RI.
She was a graduate of National Park Jr. College in Forest Glen, Md. During her lifetime she served as a Red Cross Nurse’s Aide and Staff Aide, volunteering at hospitals and schools wherever she lived. She was one of the founders and a volunteer at the Mt. Kisco, NY Day Care Center. She was active in various Episcopal Church Altar Guilds for over 50 years. In Little Compton she was a Jr. Warden for 6 years at St. Andrew’s by-sea. From 1975 until 1986 she accompanied her husband, a volunteer with International Executive Service Corps. His projects were in Liberia, Chile, Indonesia, Egypt, the Bahamas and Dominican Republic.
Services will be held at St Andrews by-the-Sea, 182 Willow Avenue, Little Compton, RI on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 4:30pm and a private burial will take place in Francestown, NH. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Andrews by-the-Sea PO Box 491, Little Compton, RI 02837 or to Save the Children, 52 Wilton Rd, Westport, CT 06880.
