

Robert Lannon Carr, age 80, of Fall River, Ma passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of JoAnn M. (Deda) Carr to whom he had been married for the past 56 years.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Robert T. and Doris G. (Lannon) Carr and had been a lifelong resident of this city. A graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Class of 1964, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from Stonehill College, a master’s degree in education from Bridgewater State University and then a master’s degree in clinical social work from Boston University.
He began his teaching career at Holy Name School and went on to work for the Fall River Public School Department for more than 34 years, first teaching science at Morton Middle School and then serving as a school adjustment counselor. After retiring from the school department, Robert served as an LICSW therapist. He had a special calling for working with diverse populations including the elderly, underprivileged youth, individuals with substance use disorders, and incarcerated populations.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen A. Elumba and her husband Anthony of Fall River, Cristin E. Carr of Framingham and Michael R. Carr and his wife Amy of Fall River, his grandchildren, Anna Elumba, Jack Elumba, Emily Carr and Lauren Carr; his brother, Thomas F. Carr of Somerset, his sister-in-law, Judith Coyne of Lady Lake, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in-law of the late Joyce Deda.
Prior to his retirement, he and his wife were dedicated communicants at Holy Name Church. An avid reader, he loved learning and had an insatiable curiosity for the unknown, great respect for the practice of meditation, the interconnectivity of different faiths and the tradition and sense of community that brings people together.
As a devoted grandfather, he especially cherished time spent sharing laughter with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time at the ‘camp,’ playing guitar, vacationing with his family and friends and taking care of his beloved dogs.
His funeral will be held Friday, March 20, 2026, at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Church, Hanover Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in St. Patrick’ Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
