Sharon A. (Hoar) Owens, age 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of Carlton “Carl” W. Harris with whom she shared 46 years and married in 2016.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of Viola (Norman) Hoar of Assonet and the late Edward Hoar, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1970, she was a nurse’s aide for 20 years and then an audiology technician at Charlton Memorial Hospital for 26 years before her retirement 2016. A skilled basket weaver, she taught basket weaving and sold traditional baskets as well as her specialty, Nantucket baskets at the Fall River Art Association and The Narrows Center for the Arts. Proud of her Irish heritage, she delighted in her several trips to Ireland with her mother Viola. Sharon enjoyed driving and traveling the coast of Maine, especially Ogunquit and Acadia National Park.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one daughter, Megan Owens of Fall River; two sisters, Lynne Aubin of Assonet and Lori Amaral of Westport; one grandson, David Owens; nephew, Edward Mathias; nieces, Julie and Kasey Mathias; and her beloved dog, Bandit. She was the sister-in-law of the late Alipio Amaral.
Her visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River. Services and burial will be private.
