Stephen Francis Wilson, age 66, passed away February 20, 2017 after a long illness that he faced with faith and optimism. Born in Fall River to the late Woodrow and Eileen R. (Cusick) Wilson, he was a lifetime resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School class of ’68, he attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in ‘97 with a degree in Humanities & Social Sciences. Steve was much respected for his work as a tireless advocate for the mentally ill, including serving on the Corrigan Mental Health Center board for 19 yrs., testifying at the State House, and being awarded the NAMI's Heroes in the Fight Award for his “dignity, courage, hope, and recovery.” He was an amateur historian for the Chamber of Commerce, and had a great love of the arts, tennis trivia, and poetry. He was best known for his grand sense of humor, intelligence, compassion and good hearted congeniality that led to a life filled with many friends. We are so proud of the good man he was and will miss him dearly.
Stephen leaves his loving brother Woodrow E. “Woody” Wilson; sister, Joan A. Grund and her husband Edward; niece and nephews Sandra Grund, Michael Wilson, Eric M. Grund and his wife Rita; and great niece and nephew Sarah and Christian Grund.
