Virginia Ann Burdett Moore “Jinny” of Little Compton, RI was loved by many for her joy of living and generosity of spirit. She was born to Bernice and Robert Burdett on November 3, 1931 in Harvey, IL, the oldest of 4 children. She died February 23, 2011.
Jinny is survived by her husband, Everett Lloyd Moore, Jr. “Tod” and four children, Michael, Jim, Margaret and Bob and their spouses, as well as her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Jinny attended grade school and high school in Homewood, IL, and went on to attend Grinnell College in Iowa where she met her husband and life partner, Tod. After two years, she left college when they married on July 18, 1951. In the years following their marriage, she lived in NJ, TX, CA, NY, and CT before settling in RI in 1975. After raising her family, she returned to school to earn her undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Bridgeport in CT. She then went on to earn a Masters in Holistic Counseling.
In addition to being an incredible wife and partner and adoring mother, Jinny had a varied career as a welcoming inn keeper, creative chef and holistic counselor. She was co-owner of the Stone House Club, a country inn, restaurant and function center in Little Compton from 1975 to 2008. Jinny and her husband bought the inn after a month long trip to the hill country in England where they stayed in many small bed & breakfasts. The move represented a leap of faith after the two of them made the decision to have Tod leave the corporate world of NYC where he was a media executive.
Jinny was very active in her community. She worked as a hospice volunteer and was a loyal church supporter, including an extended term as Deacon of the Congregational Church in Little Compton. She was also an accomplished artist and beguiling actress in a number of community theater productions throughout her life. Jinny was a world traveler having had many adventures throughout Europe, eastern and central Asia, the Middle East and Central and South America. And she treated even the small events of her life as an adventure, relishing each moment and finding joy in giving her time and heart to others. She was a faithful friend and spiritual traveler, having had a regular meditation practice for over 40 years. She was an extraordinary woman who will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 am in the United Congregational Church, The Commons, Little Compton, RI. Contributions in her honor may be made to the United Congregational Church P.O. Box 506, Little Compton, RI 02837. Arrangements in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place.
