

Winifred A. Murray ”Winnie”, age 86, of Fall River, died October 17, 2014 at home. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William Pate and Marion Howard Cardoza, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1946, and for the past 62 years has been married to Robert S. Murray, former Executive Vice President of Cape Cod Hospital.
Prior to her marriage she worked as a Service Representative for the former Bell Telephone, now Verizon, and later worked for Mullen Brothers Jewelers in Swansea. A member of the First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and was a member of its Hand Bell Choir.
A bowler and golfer, she belonged to the Women’s Golf Association at the Fall River Country Club. She was a member of the Home for the Aged, now Adams House, and Truesdale Women’s Auxiliaries and volunteered at election time to work at the polls.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Robert A. Murray and wife Marilyn J. of Westport, Paula J. Baillie and husband Harold W. of Waverly, PA, and Alyson L. Mandel and companion Peter S. Lash of Warren, RI, brother, Donald S. Pate and sister, Bonnie Pate Harris, 10 grandchildren, Andrea, Andrew and Alec Murray, Lauren, Lindsey, Hal and Kathleen Baillie, Nicole and Jeffery Mandel and Robert Watterud and 1 great granddaughter, Isabella Dente. She was mother of the late Carolyn Murray.
The family would like to thank Chrisanne Tyrrell, Henrietta Cadieux, and Melissa Lavallee for their care and loving kindness to Mrs. Murray.
Her Funeral will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Visiting hours Monday from 4 to 7PM.
