August 6, 1952 - October 10, 2024
Bonnie Lou Bailey, 71, went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2024. Born in Washington, DC, on August 6, 1952, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wilber and Iva Fitzwater. Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Wayne Bailey, as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Bob Foltyn, and Jeanette and Steve Bartek, and many nieces and nephews.
Bonnie spent most of her life in the Alexandria community. She worked as a file clerk for the IRS and later retired as a secretary from the DEA. Wayne met Bonnie in 1976 and was captivated by her from the moment they met. He fell in love with her gentle personality, faithfulness, servant’s heart, and caring nature. They were married in December 1977, and throughout their 47 years together, they enjoyed dancing and going on cruises.
Bonnie cherished the simple pleasures in life. She loved swimming, taking long walks in her neighborhood, and soaking up the sunshine. Her faith in the Lord was central to her life. She was a dedicated member of Life Community Church Alexandria, formerly Sunset Hills Baptist Church, where she found joy in attending women’s Bible studies and serving her church family.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Bonnie’s life on Tuesday, October 22, at National Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM, conducted by Pastor Ryan McAllister with music by Amanda Bentley & Christina Haurie. Burial will follow at 12:00 PM. Pallbearers will include Alex Gonzales, Jason Haurie, Jon Beck, William Wolfe, Eddie Exline, and Reed Bradley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disaster Relief Fund for hurricane victims in North Carolina and Florida: www.lifeccalexandria.org/give
Bonnie will be deeply missed by her loving husband, her family, and her church community, all of whom were blessed by her faith, kindness, and love.
Grace & Peace,
Ryan McAllister
