Charles Robert Midkiff of Fairfax, Virginia, peacefully passed away on April 11, 2023 in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 90, having been married to his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Margaret (Peggy), for 72 years.
Charlie was born in Amelia, Virginia to Lester & Treva Midkiff on June 11, 1932. He went to school in Beltsville, MD until he married his childhood sweetheart, Peggy, at ages 15 and 17 on July 17, 1950 and then off to his life-changing duty in the U.S Marine Corps where he proudly served during the Korean War.
Following the Marine Corps he and Peggy started raising their close-knit family, Curt, Treva, Dale, and David. While Peggy was raising the children, Charlie pursued his passion for the trucking industry and started Beltway Trucking in 1963. Beltway served the construction/excavation community with their famous multi-colored dump trucks in/around the Washington D.C. area. Following Beltway Trucking Charlie embarked on new start-ups to serve the larger construction/excavation industry. While constantly working to minimize debris on local city streets near construction sites, he and his son, David, patented their Vehicle Equipment and Wheel Wash inventions to eliminate road debris.
Charlie is survived by his wife Peggy Midkiff, their children Curt Midkiff, Treva and husband Marvin Langston, Dale and husband Michael Conlon, grandchildren Richard Conlon and wife Amanda, Kaila Conlon, Brandon Midkiff, David D Midkiff, and great-grandchildren, Caleb Conlon and Caiden Conlon.
Charlie is preceded in death by his youngest son, David G Midkiff, who died from cardiac arrest at the age of 57 in 2017.
Memorials may be given to Charlie’s favorite charity, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/
The entire family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Kaiser Permanente and VA Hospital Center teams, Capital Caring hospice support, and the senior care services provided by Home Instead Inc.
