The Portrait of Darryl
by Donna Coates
It’s said and it is my firm belief that we are only here for a season. God determines the length of our season. The beginning and the ending. However, He gives us the choice, freedom and the gift of filling in the time in between to complete our life’s portrait as we choose.
Darryl’s portrait is now complete. We now have the privilege of reflecting on the many things that completed the fabric of who he was. Darryl’s finished portrait depicts a man of principle and integrity with a love of life that encompassed his wife, Bridget, his family, friends and the Country that he served.
Darryl was a man with a gentle and caring soul. No matter what he was going through, he always took the time to say a kind word and provide encouragement to lift another’s day.
The time that it will take for us to adjust to Darryl’s absence is indefinite. But we are all so much better and grateful for the length of his season.
Finally, there are no words to express our eternal gratitude that God has allowed our lives to be included in Darryl’s completed portrait. Or the fact that Darryl’s life will forever be woven within the fabric of our completed portraits.
