After elementary and junior high school, he went to Wash-Lee high school where he was a star pitcher on the baseball team. He was employed at Consultants & Designers, Rosslyn, VA and Air Survey (in the same building).
He married Alayne DeGroot, also of Arlington on August 16, 1958. Both were working at Air Survey making maps.
He served in the U.S. Army from November of 1959 to September of 1962. He stationed at Ft. McNair, Washington DC. He was employed by the Army Map service (later called Defense Mapping Agency) as a cartographer until he retired while he was also employed by Air Survey in Arlington, VA.
The couple had two children: David of Galveston, TX and Valerie of Sterling, VA.
They were members of Chesterbrook Presbyterian Church for many years. After moving to Sterling, VA, they attended Sterling United Methodist Church but never became an official member.
He died of Sepsis on January 27, 2024.
