Doris Mary Browne

Doris Mary Browne (Gemmill) died November 11, 2017, after a long and vibrant life. Doris grew up in Takoma Park and attended the Academy of the Holy Names and Catholic University before raising five children in Arlington, VA. She also worked for Lord and Taylor in the men’s department, and as a teller for First Virginia Bank. An accomplished pianist, consummate hand-crafter, avid reader, free thinker and constant searcher, Doris enjoyed a good debate and a good martini. Within five minutes of meeting someone, she would discover his or her whole life story, including things he or she had never intended to share. Doris is survived by her five children: son and daughter-in-law Clarkson Klipple and Margaret O’Brien of Round Hill, VA; daughter and son-in-law Marian and Dennis Ridge of Westover, MD; daughter and son-in-law Constance Klipple and Karl Striffler of Arlington, VA; daughter and son-in-law Alice and Hugh Wunderlich of Falls Church, VA; and daughter and son-in-law Bramble Klipple and Charles Rendleman of Ithaca, NY. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Bailey Wunderlich, Nathan Wunderlich, Clarkson Rendleman and William Rendleman; her sister-in-laws, Marie Gemmill and Mary Jane Klipple; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Lawrence Browne, as well as by her brother, John Clarkson Gemmill, her parents, Clarkson and Mary Gemmill, and her infant son, Pius Klipple.
