Doris, it' been a long time since we sat in that classroom together in Peabody High School in Trenton Tn. We were so happy to find we were both living in VA and our sons went to Lee High School. We have had wonderful times meeting you, Wally and Peggy for lunch. We will miss you, beautiful 'hat" lady. You gave us the gift of laughter with your warmth and love.

I will miss you my dear and best friend. For so many years we have shared good and bad times and You always enriched the lives of all around you.

You will always be one of my closest and beloved friends. I think of you as a sister. We had such fun and so many adventures. You will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to your wonderful family.

Doris was a wonderful friend of mine and a great supporter of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.  I met her and her husband, Phil, soon after the line-of-duty death of her son, Mike.  Doris and Phil were there for the dedication of the National Memorial and I don't think a year went by when Doris did not attend our Candlelight Vigil or other major events (thanks Charlie Deane for often being her escort!).  She always brought a smile to my face--such a caring and gracious human being!  Doris, you will be missed, but not forgotten!

A true Lady - Doris was the epitome of class, compassion, and empathy. Even in the darkest hours of her losses, she would reach out to those who were also effected and offered a true comfort.

She never forgot to send that card, or answer the phone with a friendly voice which would put a smile on the saddest of faces. Bless you Doris, my you rejoice in the company of those who have gone before you, and receive those who follow with your gracious charm.

Our old gang will miss you. Thank heavens we had lunch a few months ago. Our prayers go out to your family. It was a pleasure to know you.

Doris showed us all how to survive life's challenges. She Di it with that girlish giggle and lovely smile.  She was the pioneer that lead her family to new heights and different area of the country. Doris opened her doors when we needed a place to stay and made it look easy.  She was a connector of people that was always ready for the next adventure.  We will miss talking on the phone and getting caught up with family news.

Although it was under horrible circumstances I had the pleasure of meeting Doris in 1990 after her beloved son Officer Mike Pennington was shot and killed in the line of duty.  Doris was such a sweet and sincere lady and one that Kathy and I admired.  I know she will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

You will be greatly missed, Little Miss Twinkle Toes.  Our good times go way
back. Boy, have we had lots of laughs together. I still remember your laughing
at your wedding when I had trouble getting Phil's ring off my thumb, because
I was so nervous I had cut the circulation off and had a swollen thumb.  No real
problem  tho, there was the beautirul bride, bent double, laughing,, at the alter
while the preacher waited.  I will miss my great friend but I will always remember out good times together.
