Dr. William Belt or “Bill,” as known to family, friends and patients, passed away at the age of 70 on January 16, 2024, after a courageous life-long battle with diabetes, ending with kidney failure and heart complications.
Dr. Belt was born in Washington, DC, to Malcolm and Betty Belt on November 19, 1953. He attended Arlington, VA, Public Schools followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Virginia (UVA), culminating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, in August 1979.
In spite of marrying Patricia (Pat) Pluchinsky on September 18, 1988, Dr. Belt’s first true love was that of his dental patients. He proudly served the surrounding communities for 41 years. Dr. Belt’s dental skills and personality, resulted in treating two-to-three generations of families. To a multitude of patients, he was not only their dentist for many, many years, but he also became their true and trusted friend. A friend that each patient could count on professionally and socially. Dr. Belt was not only loved by his patients, but by his immediate staff members of many years. They considered him a great employer, and as a father-figure, developed enduring, sincere relationships with his all his employees, that continues to this very day.
Dr. Belt’s love of life, did not come to an end with his demise. Following his kidney failure, he eventually was selected as a recipient of a kidney donation. Regrettably, the kidney donation did not materialize. However, this did not deter his generosity. At the end, he donated tissue and bone which will be used for protheses for amputees.
Dr. Belt is survived by his loving-wife, Pat, of 36 years. In addition to Pat, he is mourned by his immediate Philadelphia family consisting of Stephanie Corley (Niece), Karen Hunton (Niece), and James Phelan, (Nephew), Malcom Belt, (Nephew) Alexandria, VA, and Corrine Lusic (Niece) of Raleigh, NC. Dr. Belt is loved by all, especially his loving Pennsylvania “Pluchinsky” family, currently made-up of one brother-in law, eight sister-in laws, 27 nieces and 62 great nieces and nephews, plus numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
