Ebrahim was born in Basra, Iraq, the youngest of three children. His family moved to Abadan, Iran where he started school and began a lifelong pursuit of learning which led to studies at Tabriz University Medical School. His time at Tabriz University was marked not only by distinguished academics but more importantly by his courtship with and marriage to his beloved wife of 53 years, Akram Oveissi. Their decision to travel to the United States allowed Ebrahim to continue his training in pathology and shortly after to build a family and settle in Northern Virginia. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, physician, friend and tennis partner he was loved for his generosity, honesty and humility by all who shared paths with him. Ebrahim was a devout caregiver to Akram helping with the shopping and cleaning as well as providing a fierce opponent for games of Scrabble or Rummy. Ebby and Akram were soul mates, the yin-yang, true complementary forces for each other. Theirs was a perfect partnership invested in a spirit of love and laughter. He was proud of his four children and delighted in spoiling his ten grandchildren including serving them ice cream and chocolate milk with every meal.
Ebrahim was a lifetime student of medicine, reading medical textbooks for the love of learning. His life was rich with a curious pursuit of some simple pleasures like tennis, gardening, fishing, family and friends. His home and heart was open and available to all often only at the expense of sharing his enormous capacity for fun, his deadpan humor, his antics in putting on costumes or his silly impersonations. He took special pleasure in ruining picture poses with a last moment switch to one of a myriad of his funny faces. Those are pictures that will now be cherished with the deepest wish that he could pose for us again.
Our dearest Ebby enriched our lives. He was selfless, preferring to give rather than to receive. His humility would not allow him to recognize the immense impact that he had on all of us. He was a unique man who had a perfect and genuine mix of spirit, warmth and wit. His was a life to truly emulate and to celebrate and for that we are blessed. He will be missed.
Ebrahim is survived by his wife Akram, his four children Forozan, (wife June,) Fariba, Virginia, (husband Brian,) Kathy, (husband James) and his 10 grandchildren: Roy, Walter, Sadie, Nora, Miles, Max, Wes, Ella, Willem and Leila, his 3 nieces Parvin, Roya and Parvaneh, nephew Ahmad, his brother Yahya and his sister Noorieh and niece Soad, nephews Bashar, Jamal, and Saer.
