Eleanor McDonald

Eleanor was born to Janie and Frank Porter on November 3, 1942 in Brooklyn New York.

She was the first born child of this union. She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.

Eleanor was educated in the NYC Public School System. Upon graduation from high school she began her work experience at the Brooklyn Public library.

As she journeyed through life she met and married Alfred Gibson Sr. on February 24, 1961. They had three children from that union Alfred Jr. (deceased) Venus and David; Eleanor later started working at Mobil Oil Industries and in 1980 was given the opportunity to relocate her family to Fairfax Virginia for a higher job position. She remained there until her retirement in 1995. Upon retirement Eleanor became a trusted and dedicated Treasurer for the Yorkville Cooperative.

After residing in Fairfax, VA, she met Albert Louis McDonald. They later married on April 8, 2000; they were so excited about blending the two families together. Eleanor was a God-fearing, spiritual woman. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of putting God first in their lives. She continued to trust God throughout her life.

On Wednesday morning June 27, 2012, God in his infinite mercy extinguished the flicking light and released Eleanor from the suffering and labor of the world to the peaceful rest of that new and larger life.

Those who shared the joys of her love and life and survived to cherish her memory are: devoted husband Albert Louis McDonald and her children: Venus Gibson; David (Kartika) Gibson; Althea (Don) Williams; Claude (Ione) McDonald; Patricia McDonald; Dianne McDonald; Colin McDonald; Horace (Bobby) McDonald; her siblings Jeanette (Oscar) Heyward; Frank (Carol) Porter; and Carolyn Wright; grandchildren; great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Her special adopted little brother, Robert L. Taylor.
